Grapple with #TheGrid
The grid must expand. But what is the best way to develop this crucial piece of national infrastructure, taking into account new demand and new supply? Our future depends on these outcomes. That's why we invite senior leaders to register interest in #TheGrid, an E-FWD event.
Thursday, 6th of June | The Capitol, 431 Union St, Aberdeen AB11 6DA
Workshops and Energy Hustings
Attendees will choose their preferred workshop. Later, policymakers will also take questions from the E-FWD audience during an Energy Hustings. Senior leaders will be able to question a panel of policymakers led by Adele Merson, Political Editor for The Press and Journal.
The panel will include:
► Douglas Lumsden MSP (Conservatives)
► Michael Marra MSP (Labour)
► Richard Thomson MP (SNP)
Geoff Aberdein, Managing Partner of True North, will serve as political commentator.
Workshop 1
Expanding Interconnection
Can we solve the grid's problems by building out new capacity, bringing power to where it is needed? National Grid is working on planning reforms, while still retaining its central role. Should the UK resolve its transmission problems via more sophisticated planning, or would deepening market involvement be more effective?
Workshop 2
Tackling Demand
Reforms to the electricity market could incentivise demand in new areas. Is locational pricing an economist's pipe dream or does it hold the key to resolving gridlock?
Workshop 3
Energy Storage
Electricity is hard to store, but there are ways to tackle the problem. Should we find new ways of thinking about energy storage and more sophisticated ways of consuming power?
Workshop 4
CCUS / Hydrogen
Pipelines and ships also provide the ability to move energy and emissions. Can the UK progress its CCS and hydrogen projects to capture some of the new low carbon drive, particularly as Track 1 clusters reach a critical point?
